The Competition Factor production metric has performed well over the years, but one could argue that the TE position has been shown the highest value. While some top players like Kyle Pitts and Evan Engram scored high in our metric and were also drafted early, others like Mark Andrews and Dennis Pitta were drafted much later and have had outstanding careers.
One team that has practically owned the TE position is the Baltimore Ravens. Perhaps they rely on career production as one of their top evaluation measures for the position, but it doesn’t take long to figure out that there’s a correlation here. In looking at our top 150 and the Ravens’ draft history, here’s where things match up.
Round | Player | Round | Pick | CF Rank (All-Time) |
2022 | Charlie Kolar | 4 | 128 | 2 |
2022 | Isaiah Likely | 4 | 139 | 115 |
2018 | Hayden Hurst | 1 | 25 | 96 |
2018 | Mark Andrews | 3 | 86 | 6 |
2015 | Maxx Williams | 2 | 55 | 43 |
2010 | Ed Dickson | 3 | 70 | 48 |
2010 | Dennis Pitta | 4 | 114 | 3 |
The Ravens have drafted 7 of our top 150 all-time TEs since 2010. But what’s more telling is that they’ve drafted 3 of our top 10 overall and 5 of our top 50. Even better is, they’ve had their best luck on days 2 and 3 of the draft. (*note, we currently do not have data for another Ravens TE drafted; Nick Boyle of Delaware).
With this in mind, here’s a look at how our All-Time TE list stacks up, which includes players from this year’s draft class. Of note, Michael Mayer of Notre Dame and Dalton Kincaid of Utah are both in our top 20 all-time.
